Private Jet Charters Save More Than Time

By Ellie Craft

Individuals and companies use private charter jets and plane rentals for many reasons. Most often cited is the time saved while traveling but there are others reasons that a person might want to use a private jet. It might to be avoid the hassles of waiting in line at the airport (along with the lost time) only to have flights delayed or canceled, with missed meetings or delayed vacation plans as the result.

Most of the time you'll be flying alone or with a few friends or colleagues and you often won't get the chance to choose who sits next to you. With American's burgeoning waistline you may find yourself next to several bigger people, making the flight uncomfortable at best. Or maybe you're next to a perfume addict or the sweaty guy who forgot his deodorant.

Flying commercially its next to impossible to get to several meetings in distant locations in the same day. Its not because of flight time but instead due to the incessant delays of commercial flights and co-ordinating flight times. Using private jet charters you can easily have a morning meeting in New York and an afternoon meeting in Boston and still make it down to Florida for the game in the evening. The flexibility of charter flights to get you where you need to be quickly and without delay is unparalleled with commercial aviation.

Charter jets are a great way to fill the gap for companies or individuals that have their own private aircraft. Owning a small aircraft works well for many businesses but there are often times that an aircraft with a larger passenger capacity or range are needed. Chartering these flights makes a lot of sense as you can pick the best aircraft for your needs and still have a very economical private flight.

Where do private flights save the most time. Arguably its the time saved in not having to deal with all the delays and hassles of the airport. For a commercial flight you have to find a place to park, wait for the shuttle to take you to the terminal, wait in line to check in your bags. Notice the common theme here. Waiting.

Even if the check in process for your commercial flight has gone smoothly there is still the security check to get through. It may be fast and smooth for you but more than likely you're going to wait in a very long line to get through the security checks. Don't forget to remove your belt and shoes and put the laptop in its own bin! And that's just the start to the potential delays. There is a reason they ask you to arrive 2 hours before your flight.

After getting through security and to your gate the real wait often begins. Hopefully you've brought a lot to do or a really good book to read. About 20% of commercial flights were delayed or canceled over the last five years. These delays and cancellations were most often due to weather but were also due to flight crew and maintenance problems and air traffic control issues as well. The recently implemented tarmac delay rule by the FAA which keeps operators from forcing passengers to stay on a plane on the tarmac for more than 3 hours at a time has seemed to have led to an rise in the number of cancellations of flights so airlines can avoid the stiff fines.

On a private charter flight you skip all of these delays and also all of the frustrations that result as well. Instead you drive directly up and park next to the hanger. The plane leaves when you arrive, instead of waiting for the airline's schedule to dictate the timing, you dictate it.

The other big time saver of private charter flights is the ability to fly out of an airport that is very close to your home. Instead of driving an hour or more to get to a major airport the plane picks you up at a smaller regional airport that serves your community. Likewise, you often arrive much closer to your destination as well. With a rental car or hired taxi there to take you to your final destination.

One reason you might not consider at first for using a private plane is the privacy it affords. Athletes and celebrities often use private flights just for this reason alone. Can you imagine what you would do if your favorite celebrity sat next to you on your next flight? I would imagine that you would ask for their autograph or at least a picture. Not only is a private flight private but it also offers food that can be catered to your tastes. You might actually enjoy the meal on your flight.

Steve Jobs knew a good deal when he saw. When Apple asked how they could compensate him after his return he asked for a private plane. He knew this would enable him to spend more time with his family which was in short supply as he ran both Pixar and Apple at the same time. The plane allowed him to reach his favorite vacation spot in Hawaii with his family in a few short hours.

People often overlook the many benefits of private charter flights and instead focus on the higher cost. But charter flights can sometimes be comparable to first class flights when flying a group of people, especially when taking advantage of empty leg flights.
