A 20 Year-Old Used Pontoon Boat Is Transformed Right Before Your Eyes - Part 1

By David Charles

Do you have an older Pontoon Boat or are thinking of getting an older Pontoon Boat? I have good news for you. You can make your "New To You" Used Pontoon Boat look like a brand new boat with very little money and a little elbow grease. There are a few minor and some major changes you can make that will completely transform your boat from an early 90's junker to the envy of the harbor, at least in your eyes.

So, we purchased an 18' 1991 Lowe Pontoon Boat for $3,500.00 locally and have put no more than $2,000.00 into it. The boat had great floorboards and carpet, sealed Pontoons with no leaks, and a strong running two-stroke Outboard Motor. Other than that, it had seen better days and needed some TLC.

One of the quickest things you can do to your Pontoon Boat is give all the aluminum on your Boat a deep cleaning. This includes the Pontoons, Railings, Bimini Top Frame and the side railing panels of your boat. I recommend using a product like Nu Shine to remove all of the contaminants that have built up on your aluminum. I could literally go on for hours about how well this stuff will clean your boat and how to use it but you will just have to check out our site for more details.

Black Streak Remover is a real life saver when trying to bring your Outboard Motor back to its original luster. It is very easy to use and does an amazing job of polishing up your 20 year old motor. Just spray the product on the outboard, let it sit on the surface and eat at the contaminants and then wipe it all off. Its that easy! Try it on some other spots and see what else you can clean up with it. You will be amazed!

During our Pontoon Boat Project, we decided to replace the old looking, wood-grain textured aluminum panels that were decorated with fading and chipped decals. We replaced the old panels with new smooth textured white panels to give the Pontoon Boat a nice modern look. You can purchase the panels in a number of different colors but I chose white because it was a nice neutral color I could match to any color scheme that I decided to go with. This is not an easy project that should be taken lightly. I was unaware of the long weekend that was ahead of me when I started to pull the old panels out. I would only recommend tackling this project if you are extremely handy and really have interest in torturing yourself. I cannot stress enough the amount of work that will go into replacing your Pontoon Boat panels. If you decide to take on this project, I personally used Aluminum Trim Coil from the local hardware store and cut it into the various panel sizes with metal shears. Once you have replaced all the panels apply the Pontoon Boat Graphics of you're choosing.
