Getting On The Right Route To Clear Airport Security

By Greg Diener

When it comes to traveling at the airport, we face lots of obstacles as we board our plane. We all must keep our heads up when looking at the many hazards at our terminals, from the risks linked with airline security to the different terror threats that the United States faces. Clear airport security has become the main question most travelers have when they fly, wondering what precautions the airlines and ourselves must ask in order to stay safe.

Recently, in Myrtle Beach a woman was busted at a security gate for having a loaded gun in her purse. The woman was not flying, but was given a gate pass to accompany her daughter when she tried to board the plane. This is a case where for once airport security did something correct and understood there was a threat before anybody's life was in danger. You have to wonder really what this woman was considering carrying a loaded weapon at the airport while escorting her daughter? I can only think what would have happened had airline security not been fortunate to notice the woman's gun in the purse?

During this past summer, we have noticed in the news some potential scary situations that could have caused potential disaster had they not been stopped in time. J.F.K. Airport in New York City a lost jet-skier found his way to shore by climbing the airport's high fence with security failing to notice. Thankfully the man was noticed while he was on the runway and was promptly arrested. In Utah we had a case where a fugitive slipped past the cracks of their security system and stole a small airplane. Thankfully, in that case the plane was stopped while still on the ground. Although these issues did not lead to danger, the fact there was still a breach has led to more doubts among skeptical travelers.

However, airport travelers need not be in fear of any probable threats when they try to board. New programs have been set up at security gates that could avoid a disorder at the security gate. CLEAR is one such application being supplied at select airports that allow all frequent airline passengers, the chance to go through airline security quickly. It is done by giving your biometrical information for an annual fee your identification is then accumulated onto a card which is scanned at a kiosk. It is then followed by some quick tests to check your ID and instantly you are taken to the front of the line. While you still have to face some of the necessary security checks the TSA provides, CLEAR is one of many programs being taken at airports around the globe to provide passenger safety.

I sense that security and airline passengers should work together hand-in-hand to provide sound answers to helping solve security matters at our airports. By identifying the threats that need to be stopped, we will help stop havoc before it is started. Passengers need to have the capability to enjoy their flight as they go on their vacation and security should have the functions needed to shield every traveler.
