Long Flights May Seem Shorter Through These Tips

By Gay Devereux

It can be very exciting to take a vacation after slaving away at the workplace for months. Taking long flights is often necessary, something that many travelers hate looking forward to. If you are about to embark on a journey which has to begin by being stuck inside an airplane for hours, worry not as you can make the travel time seem shorter.

Stashing the right things in your carry-on luggage is the real secret. Travelers come up with a list of things they will use once they arrive at their destination. However, some of them forget certain essentials while aboard an airplane.

As they say, time flies when you're having fun. That is why you should have a form of entertainment or two. En route to the airport, grab a paperback novel whose storyline makes it hard to put down. Some people prefer magazines instead as they are lighter and oftentimes cheaper, and may be disposed of easily so they won't eat up precious luggage space.

If you're one of those tech-savvy people, make sure that your favorite gadget is within reach. Portable ones are the best as they allow you to travel lightly. It's a good thing that you have so many choices especially these days, from e-book readers, music players to tablets that are capable of doing many other things. Just make sure they are fully charged before you hit the airport. Better yet, stash some spare batteries somewhere in your carry-on luggage.

Hunger can make you feel grumpy. That is why having some snacks around can make putting up with long plane rides bearable. Pack some treats that you really love. But try to steer clear of those which are greasy or difficult for the stomach to digest. Also, be kind enough to avoid bringing in smelly food that can bother passengers seated next to you.

The air inside the plane can get very cold at times. Bring items that can protect you from such, like a pair of extra socks, sweatshirt and bonnet. Keep the skin moisturized by picking up lotion and lip balm once you're through with security.

The best way to deal with long flights is by not being aware of it. Sleeping is definitely a great idea. When you get to your destination, you will look fresh and feel revitalized. That is why your carry-on luggage should contain some essentials to help you have forty winks, like an eye mask, a small pillow, and noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs.
